A Day in the Life of an Amateur

Are you an addict? If you’re living an amateur life you are. Addictions aren’t limited to drugs, alcohol sex and other popular vices. Compulsive Facebooking is an addiction, along with video games, other social media, eating, even cleaning. Anything that serves as a distraction–“displacement activities” Pressfield calls them–and that keeps you running away from your calling or living your highest self, qualifies as an addiction. It keeps you living life as an amateur.
Your addictions become a substitute for your calling, because living your calling hurts. It requires sacrifice and exposure, and involves risk. Most people have an extremely low pain tolerance for those three things. And so we create lots of drama to keep us busy so we don’t have to follow the calling that is pulling us all the time. We live in the past and dream of the future while NOT doing the work required to progress us in the present.
But when you turn pro, life gets much simpler. You step back from yourself and get over your drama, because it’s become boring to you! THAT’S when things start getting good. THAT’s when you start creating. THAT’s when your dreams start becoming your reality.
So are you ready to turn pro? Comment below.

  1. Yes, I am. But it is not as easy as one thinks. You need a strong support system, a plan, and the motivation to never give up.

  2. I agree with both Melissa and Trudy. Im in the pro phase and it is scary and at the same time exciting. Many risks and sacrifices but I know it will be worth it

  3. Wow. Love this topic and concept!
We are all amateurs at one thing or another; I am addicted to sunshine and massages! haha
I guess there are worse things to be addicted to, but I definitely see how ANY addiction can serve as a distraction to our highest self.

  4. Wonderful post today. You can also be addicted to emotions. Creating circumstances to keep you in a space of inactivity, like drama, stress, overwhelm, disappointment, etc. All addictions to keep you from being who you are created to be and living your purpose.

  5. I agree that there are so many things we become addicted to. Getting centred in something bigger allows the addictions to fade away. <3

Excellent message! Really puts things in perspective! Makes so much sense, these distractions are addictions that keep us playing small! Time to turn PRO and play a bigger game. Imagine a world with more PROS inspiring and impacting for the highest good of all!

  7. You can also be addicted to negative thoughts and practices which limits any manifestation.
