How to Overcome Perfectionism & Get Into Alignment With Teri Karjala

Hey Prosperity Seekers,

This is a special episode because I have a super special guest today – Teri Karjala! Teri is a Transformational Life Strategist and the founder of Creative Counseling Center and Talking With Teri. She is a Premier Success Coach with eWomen Network and a Coach with Forbes.

Teri is also the best-selling author of Be The Magic of You: Tools to Transform Your Life with a foreword written by Jack Canfield. She has been featured in many television, podcasts, and radio shows, including Hay House.

What makes Teri so unique is that she’s combined her counseling background with energy psychology and applied the principles of quantum physics to transform people’s lives by clearing the unconscious blocks that hold us back.

As Teri works primarily with female entrepreneurs, we’re going to have a conversation primarily around entrepreneurs today. But it really fits with anything that you’re trying to create in your life.

Tune in as we’re chatting about:

  • overcoming perfectionism in business
  • the difference alignment makes to the growth and success of biz
  • the biggest challenge we all have to overcome to live the life we desire

So jump in right now!

The Biggest Challenge Women Entrepreneurs Face

After decades of working with women (and from her own experience), Teri’s found that our biggest challenge is our mindset. You know, those are all those things we’re talking about and spending our time, energy, and resources on while creating the life we desire.

So often, we have gone through life based on previous programming, scripts, and information that served us at some point. Teri truly believes that everything that we’ve gone through up to this day has served us in some way (even if it may seem dysfunctional today).

However, the things that served us in a certain period and brought us here are not serving us anymore – they just don’t match the next level of ourselves. Yet, people are still trying to bring them forward to where they are going.

Actually, that’s where the challenge lies – we’re trying to take the old version of us into our awesome new beginnings.

At that moment, not only that it stops serving us, but it shows up as self-sabotage, the imposter syndrome, or just getting stuck in fear, overwhelm, self-doubt, or uncertainty. It literally blocks us from what you are so diligently wanting to create.

But Teri has some good news! Once we become aware of it, we can shift it. Brain science is now confirming (again and again) that we have the capacity to shift those old programs. It gives hope to all that we can actually change those things.

Overcoming Perfectionism

Some of the programs that we run are perfectionist programs. I’m not even gonna try it unless I can be perfect at it – this sentence illustrates the issue so well. It doesn’t matter that you’ve never tried something before – you just have to knock it out of the park, or you won’t try it at all.

Been there, done that. Both Teri and me. Maybe that’s why it’s so heartbreaking for us to see how many women follow this pattern. Because in this way, they hold themselves back from the most amazing transformational experiences.

Yes, it takes courage to jump into something unknown, and it’s awkward at the beginning. But then again, it’s always awkward before it’s elegant. Or sometimes it won’t become elegant because it’s just not your cup of tea. You can always say no, I don’t want to continue this.

But you don’t know unless you try.

And what if that nudge is something that’s going to contribute to us? Teri says she’s never experienced a nudge that didn’t eventually lead her to something really great in her life. And I can agree with her.

Just Go For 95%

When I started applying the motto Don’t get good, get done, my whole life has changed. That’s how I wrote a number one best-selling book – just get done, chapter by chapter, sentence by sentence…

Once I accepted that principle, I’ve felt a huge wave of relief come over me. I can get something done, and it can be lousy. I’m just giving myself permission to be a human, to get it wrong, and then to tweak as I go.

Teri has shared a similar piece of advice she heard 15 years ago, but it has stuck with her all this time. At an event conference, a guy she met recognized she was a perfectionist and gave her a simple life lesson – Just go for 95%.

That is so powerful and relieving because the 95% of most of us high-achieving, ambitious women is better than many people’s 120%. And not only that – going for 95% gives the freedom of not having to be perfect.

Being in Alignment

When it comes to alignment, Teri sees it as being in alignment with mind, body, soul, spirit – or being in alignment with the energy. When we are out of alignment, those are the challenges, the barriers, the energy that’s not supporting us.

If we think about energy as being on a vibrational state, there are:

  • lower vibrations (fear, doubt, worry, insecurities, questioning, procrastination)
  • higher vibrations (joy, contentment, excitement)

When living in our purpose and passion, it’s hard not to experience those higher vibrations because it’s such an alignment with who we’re being. So when we’re in alignment with the energy, things start to fall into place pretty effortlessly.

Then we are speaking life into the things that we desire versus the things that we don’t desire. And that’s something people usually don’t do. Actually, both of us experienced that – when asked about the things they desire, 95% of the time, people tell us what they don’t want to.

We obviously put so much time and energy into that and then wonder why we aren’t creating the life that we love but getting the same old, same old instead. Remember – we’re magnets, we attract more of our dominant vibration.

So, the more we’re in alignment when we go towards the things that we desire, the more personal power we have, which is taking us to break through those barriers and blocks and get to the next level.

Teri believes that growth and expansion are evolutionary, meaning that human bearings are not meant to stay the same. Noone is the same person they were a year ago. We’re always evolving, growing, and expanding.

And the more we can stay in alignment, it just becomes easier.
