It’s that time of year when many parents send their children back to school. It’s a time of mixed emotions for me, because it’s just another sign they are growing up so fast! And despite the important lessons they learn at home, we can’t possibly cover everything they need to know. So we rely on school to teach them some of the things they need know once they enter the real world. If we’re lucky, we’ll teach our children good values and instill in them a love for learning that will allow them to thrive.
But what about you? Are you thriving? Are you using your experiences and knowledge to create a better life? Does that spark for learning still burn within you?
Learning is a lifelong process, and it doesn’t begin or end with formal schooling. There are countless community or continuing adult education courses, online training, video tutorials, DIY classes, lectures, summits, and more where you can pick up a new skill or learn something new.
But we also learn new things at home, on the job, from friends with shared interests, by participating in sports or hobbies, attending cultural events, and more. Every experience has the opportunity to teach us something. Even having conversations with complete strangers can be enlightening by offering insights to new perspectives and ways of thinking.
If you want to learn how to make the ultimate brunch, plan a flower garden, hold a yoga pose, or just help your kids with their ‘new math’ homework, there are resources for that. There are also places where we can learn things that are vital to our own self-enlightenment and fulfillment. It’s just a matter of looking around to find them, and having the spark to learn something new.
It was once thought that adults had limited learning capacity, hence the adage, ‘you can’t teach an old dog new tricks’. But plenty of research has shown that the ability to learn decreases very slightly with age. What is important is the will to learn and knowing that what you learn is yours forever.
B.B. King once said
“The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.”
If you have a desire to learn, find ways to make that desire work for you. Find opportunities that will broaden your mind, and your heart, and have faith that you can achieve great things. If you want to learn something new, don’t let anything stop you!
My own Miracle Academy is a year-long program for teaching people how to recognize and create miracles in their daily lives. I’m certain that most graduates from the program use the skills we teach far more often that they use algebra. Since the program is packed full of information, we’ve made the learning experience easy and include online groups, teleconferences, worksheets and more in a supportive learning environment. It’s not the kind of content you’re going to get out of a textbook, but it will certainly get that spark for learning burning.
If you’re interested in learning more about Miracle Academy check out my information page, or schedule a time to talk to me . I’d love to answer your questions and help you connect with your passion.
