I picked a lousy time to start this whole Body for Life challenge. Why? Because I traveled my first week on the plan! Anytime I travel anywhere that has an overnight stay I consider it a vacation, whether it’s for business, visiting family, or whatever. And typically I consider myself in “vacation mode” which means all access to any food I want, in any quantities I want, with no exercise!
But I’d committed to you that I was going to do this 12 week challenge, so it was time to fit this challenge into some travel. Though I wasn’t perfect at the eating, I did my best with the limited choices I had, and definitely had smaller portions! (Score One for me!)
Since I’m training for another half marathon the end of July, I knew I’d need to have a running day scheduled in during my 3 day trip. I pushed past the resistance of packing my work out clothes and running shoes (I love to pack light and haven’t checked bags in at least 10 years and really didn’t want to carry a heavy carry-on), pushed through my fear of being in an unfamiliar city and getting lost (believe it or not, I still haven’t mastered GPS yet), and got committed!
I had previously determined to do this run at night after dinner as part of my training strategy. (That, and I really don’t like getting up early in the morning!) But after a full day of business training, you can imagine how exhausted I was mentally.
I DID NOT WANT TO RUN.
But the thought occurred to me as I battled with the temptation of falling into the hotel bed and vegging or doing the quick 35 minute workout I’d committed to do: What does a woman who makes miracles in her life decide to do? She keeps her commitments, whether she feels like it or not.
And I decided to BE that woman right then. I tied up my shoes and headed to the hotel’s workout room to do a workout on the treadmill.
And that workout was hard. But I distracted myself with Netflix, turned on that machine and RAN! That night, I was that successful miracle maker. I showed up as her, even though I really didn’t feel like it.
When the fun and the novelty of working for that new body wears off, does your commitment kick in or kick off? Mediocre thinking trains us not to do things if we’re not in the mood to do them. Miracle thinking gets us into commitment gear, which declares that you do what you say you’ll do even if you just don’t feel like it right now.
That small piece of miracle thinking will change your body, your job, and your entire life. It’s that powerful. And YOU, my friend, are that powerful!
To Your Miracle Life!
